Position Summary
Due to the retirement of a longtime faculty member, the SRU Art Department is seeking a full-time instructor for the 2026-2027 academic year to teach Digital Media and courses in other studio areas as assigned. Responsibilities include teaching and organization/management of three studio courses (a 12-credit load, or equivalent) each term.
With stable enrollments, strong programs, as well as a unionized and collaborative faculty, SRU enrolls some 8600 students, and the Department of Art has one of the largest student enrollments of those within the College of Liberal Arts. The Department offers both a BA and a BFA in Art. Slippery Rock University is located in a small rural town just an hour north of Pittsburgh. Our campus is safe and inviting, with facilities that enrich our programs and help us sustain our high student retention and graduation rates. This position is a 3-3 studio load with primary responsibilities in Digital Media, 2D Design, and Drawing with potential to teach in other areas as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MFA (Master of Fine Arts) in Digital Media Art and Design or equivalent MFA degree in closely related field required. In-depth experience with traditional and emerging digital theory with a demonstrated command of current digital processes and media, and the ability to teach such programs in a Fine Art context required. Able to teach 2D construction and manipulation, 3D modeling/ virtual space, web-based work, and/or other time-based and related media such as animation, sound, and video as well as other fine art applications of the Adobe Suite. Successful performance in an interview and teaching demonstration.
Ability to teach Foundations courses as needed
Professional portfolio of works (20-25 images)
Evidence of using art as a tool for advancing inquiry and understanding of multiple disciplines across the curriculum.
Evidence of teaching excellence beyond the studio, such as mentorship of individuals, service, and other roles in championing the arts in broad and impactful ways.
Commitment to the education of diverse populations. Candidates are encouraged to articulate how they bring an ethos of promoting respect, inclusion, and a sense of belonging for all to their work as educators.
Preferred Qualifications
Digital Media experience and prior college teaching experience preferred.
